Car accidents happen and always have done. In the early days of motoring, just to see a car was a novelty, to see one wrapped around a tree was crowd-worthy. There is something fascinating about accidents, especially other people’s, and motorway traffic slows down even when an accident is on the opposite carriageway. This photograph was taken in 1912 in Farnsfield in Nottinghamshire. The caption refers to a famous explanation written on an insurance claim form.
