Thanks to the caption on the original photograph, we can be very precise about this factory fire. It happened on the 15th April, 1909 in Huddersfield. Mills such as this, seaside piers and theatres regularly caught fire. Fortunately, we put a lot more effort into fire prevention measures now than we did then. The newspaper report for this one says that the local fire brigades were well organised and quickly on the scene but they probably had very little impact on a fire of this size.
