This is one of the most remarkable images in our archive …. and we have many. The Charge of the Light Brigade took place in 1854 during the Crimean War and would have been just another British battle had Alfred, Lord Tennyson not immortalised those who fell in his poem of the same name. It is remembered as an heroic charge by British Cavalry through a valley with Russian cannon to the front and sides. In reality they stood no chance and it was the result of confused communication and poor leadership. This photograph, taken in 1912, captured the portraits of those who were there and still living at the time. Amazing!
