This unusual view of the Forth Bridge near Edinburgh was taken in the 1930s and shows a gang of maintenance workers walking to work, far above the Firth of Forth. It reminds me of the famous photograph of skyscraper construction workers in New York, eating their sandwiches precariously balanced on a girder with not a care in the world. In both images, there is a complete lack of safety equipment, which seems strange to us now but was the norm at the time.
