Eastbourne Railway Station

In Victorian times, when taking a photograph involved glass plates, chemicals and a dark room to develop your prints, night-time photography was challenging and required technical expertise, experience, special equipment, trial and error and luck to get that perfect shot. As such, this atmospheric photograph, taken in the 1890s, is quite remarkable. It shows Eastbourne railway station at night, with gas lighting and a horse-drawn taxi waiting for passengers …. just delightful!
