Clovelly is a picturesque fishing village on the north Devon coast. Interestingly, the whole village is privately owned, development is strictly controlled, no cars are allowed and residents have to carry everything they need from the car park at the top of the hill. It is hugely popular with tourists but this study of fishermen, taken in the late Victorian period, reflects a very different time, when life was much harder and they are probably waiting and hoping to be hired by local boat skippers.
