Climbing Scafell Pike

You have to admire the guts and determination of climbers of any generation but Victorians did it without special clothing or equipment. They were amateurs who relied solely on friends, ropes and, of course, a trusty pipe! Many of them must have had serious accidents in remote, inaccessible places. No mobile phones, mountain rescue teams or helicopters for them and some wouldn’t have lived to climb another day.
