This is the City Arcade in Birmingham. Built in 1898, it was originally much larger than it is today but part of it was destroyed in a WW2 air-raid and never rebuilt. There is an elegance to Victorian arcades that eludes their modern counterparts, our mega-malls. It’s good to know that, having been through years of neglect and closure, this particular arcade was restored in the 1980s and is a vibrant part of Birmingham city centre.
