A panorama of Sunderland

Panoramic photographs are always interesting, especially aerial ones taken over one hundred years ago as, if we know the area, we can recognise landmarks and see the changes that have taken place. Sunderland in the north east of England was a major ship-building centre and we can see two under construction in this photograph. How did the photographer take such a sharp photograph, from a balloon or biplane maybe?
